The Chrome & Caffeine Summer Calendar: Low, Slow, and Mother Road Ready

There is a specific kind of magic that happens when the morning sun hits a polished bumper. It’s that flash of light: the "chrome wink": that signals the start of a long haul or a slow cruise. For those of us who live for the rumble of a V8 and the smell of asphalt, the ritual doesn’t start with the turn of a key. It starts with a heavy mug of fresh roasted coffee.

At Coppertop Coffee & Trading Co., we believe a cup of coffee should be more than a caffeine jolt. It’s a mental plane ticket. Whether you’re staring down a deadline at the office or prepping your rig for a weekend run, that first sip should transport you to the places where the air is thinner, the roads are wider, and the culture is deeper. This summer, we’re following the chrome across the Southwest. From the lowriders of Albuquerque to the classic lines of Route 66, this is your 2026 roadmap for chrome and caffeine.

The Heart of the Cruise: Low and Slow in the 505

If there is a centerpiece to our summer, it’s the "low and slow" movement. Lowriding isn't just about the car; it’s about heritage, family, and the craftsmanship of the ground-up build. It’s the ultimate expression of our motto: From the Ground, For the People.

May 2: Cinco de Mayo Lowrider Fiesta – Albuquerque, NM

The season kicks off with a bang in the Duke City. The Fiesta is a showcase of hydraulic mastery and candy-painted dreams. When you’re walking the lines of Impalas and Monte Carlos, you’re seeing years of dedication.

  • Fuel Up: Before heading to the show, stop by Barelas Coffee House for a breakfast that sticks to your ribs. If you’re looking for a legendary New Mexican atmosphere, El Pinto is the move for a post-show dinner under the cottonwoods.
  • The Ritual: Pack a thermos of our dark roast coffee. The bold, smoky notes of the Italian Roast match the character of the Albuquerque streets perfectly.

June 7: Albuquerque Lowrider Super Show

This is the big one. The Super Show brings out the best of the best from across the Southwest. It’s a masterclass in detail: pinstriping so fine it looks like lace and chrome work that reflects the entire New Mexico sky.

California Dreams and Southern Sun

Before the heat truly settles into the desert, we head west. The Southern California car scene is the bedrock of American automotive culture, and the Pacific air provides a different kind of backdrop for those arabica coffee beans.

May 1-2: Temecula Rod Run – Temecula, CA

Over 600 pre-1974 classic cars take over the streets of Old Town Temecula. It’s a blend of high-end restorations and garage-built survivors.

  • The Vibe: It’s dusty elegance at its finest. Refined machines in a rugged, historic setting.
  • Local Tip: Take the long way through the vineyard backroads. The morning mist in the valley is the perfect time to crack open a bag of our light roast coffee. The bright acidity of the Blonde roast keeps you sharp for the drive.

The High Country: Prescott and Sedona

When the lowlands get too hot, we climb. The elevation change isn't just good for your engine’s cooling system; it’s good for the soul. Prescott and Sedona offer some of the most scenic backdrops for any car show in the world.

June 6-8: 9th Annual 21st Century Car Show – Prescott, AZ

June 13-14: Watson Lake Car Show – Prescott, AZ

Prescott in June is a sanctuary. The Watson Lake show is particularly special: the granite dells provide a prehistoric contrast to the polished steel of the classic entries.

  • Local Tip: Park near Whiskey Row and walk the historic district. The textures of the old brick and the sound of boots on the sidewalk are pure Arizona.
  • Summer Spark Fuel: Try our "Summer Spark" recipe. Cold brew made from our whole bean coffee, topped with a splash of tonic water and a twist of lime. It’s fizzy, refreshing, and the perfect fuel for a high-altitude afternoon.

June 26-28: 24 Hours of Octane – Prescott, AZ

A full weekend of pure automotive adrenaline. It’s fast, it’s loud, and it requires a serious coffee subscription to keep up with the pace.

October 10: Sedona Car Show – Sedona Airport, AZ

The season finale. Set atop the mesa at the Sedona Airport, this show offers 360-degree views of the red rocks. As the summer heat fades into the crisp October air, the chrome seems to glow even brighter against the crimson cliffs.

  • Local Tip: Drive the 89A through Oak Creek Canyon on your way out. It’s a winding, technical road that rewards a focused driver.

Southwest Rugged Peaks

The Mother Road: Route 66 Runs Deep

Route 66 isn’t just a highway; it’s our DNA. It’s the path that connects the heartland to the coast, passing right through our backyard. From the neon signs of Gallup to the pier in Santa Monica, the Mother Road represents the ultimate American travel ritual.

August 15: Mother Road Classic – Flagstaff, AZ

Flagstaff sits at the crossroads of the mountain and the desert. The Mother Road Classic is a tribute to the golden age of travel. It’s about the journey, not just the destination.

  • The Coffee Connection: Our single origin coffee program is built on this same spirit of exploration. For this stretch of the Mother Road, feature our Mexico single-origin roast: a bold, Central American profile with dependable depth and a clean finish that fits long miles and wide-open country.
  • Travel Tip: Visit the Museum of Northern Arizona for a deep dive into the regional history before heading out to the cruise.

Desert Highway Place

Southern Borders: Las Cruces

Early August: Borderland Car Show – Las Cruces, NM

Las Cruces brings a different flavor. It’s closer to the border, the heat is intense, and the cars are built to handle it. The Borderland show is a melting pot of styles: trucks, motorcycles, and lowriders all sharing the same space.

  • Local Tip: Take a detour to the Mesilla Plaza. It’s one of the most authentic historic sites in the Southwest. Grab some local pecans and find a shady spot to enjoy a cup of flavored coffee beans like our Mexican Chocolate blend.

The Ritual: Brewing for the Road

Whether you’re a participant or a spectator, the way you start your day matters. A refined cup of coffee is the anchor for these allusive moments. We don’t just sell best coffee beans; we provide the fuel for your next memory.

🌿 Natural energy
Our beans are sourced with respect for the land and the people who grow them. Whether you prefer coffee pods for convenience at the campsite or whole bean coffee for a slow Sunday morning grind, we’ve got you covered.

Crafting the Summer Spark

To keep things frosty during those desert shows, here’s how we do it:

  1. Concentrate: Brew a strong batch of our Italian Roast.
  2. Chill: Let it cool or flash-chill it over ice.
  3. Spark: Fill a glass with ice, add 4oz of coffee concentrate, 4oz of sparkling mineral water, and a dash of simple syrup.
  4. Finish: A squeeze of orange or lime to cut through the depth.

It’s rugged, it’s refreshing, and it’s pure Coppertop.

Why We Do It

We follow the chrome because we respect the craft. Whether it’s the perfect curve of a fender or the complex flavor profile of a single origin coffee from the Tarrazú hills, quality takes time. It takes patience. It takes a willingness to get your hands dirty and do things the right way.

This summer, as you’re navigating the 10, the 40, or the backroads of the Mogollon Rim, remember to take a second for the ritual. Reflect on the road behind you and the miles ahead.

From the Ground, For the People. We’ll see you out there on the asphalt.
